Artist Biography, 2010

Laura Alma McCarthy received her BFA from the University of North Carolina Charlotte.  She earned another undergraduate degree in History from Davidson College in Davidson, NC.  Her awards include an Emerging Artist Grant from the North Carolina Arts and Science Council to develop a new body of works on paper.  She has received residency fellowships from the Vermont Studio Center, McColl Center for Visual Art and Virgina Commonwealth University Studio Program.  She was integral in the founding of the artist collective ARPA, a group of 10 artists who met during a 2005 residency at the McColl Center for Visual Art.  Currently she is involved in an ongoing public project dealing with Mindfulness at the Urban Ministry Center in Charlotte, NC, exploring the intersection of conceptual ideas and practical application.
